The chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal expressed concern in the matter of eve teasing which recently happened in Vikasnagar. Recently in Vikasnagar, a case was reported wherein two sisters were allegedly harassed and eve-teased in the market. Regarding this Kandwal said that such cases in the State influence others to repeat such activities.
Talking to The Pioneer the USCW head said, “There are many cases of eve teasing in the State. However, half of the reported cases of eve teasing were done through the phone. But, I can say comparatively eve teasing cases are less compared to cases of domestic violence and love Jihad.”
The USCW chief also stressed that parents must teach their sons about respecting women in society. She further said that women of the State must become strong and should raise their voices against such actions. Kandwal added that the commission is always there to protect women in such cases. She further informed that women can dial 112 to file complaints against such crimes.
