Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) chairperson Kusum Kandwal has taken cognisance of the recent case in Dehradun’s Patelnagar area in which a husband allegedly injured his wife’s private parts using a sharp object. Expressing grief at the incident, she also strongly condemned it.

Kandwal talked to the superintendent of police (Rural) Jaya Balooni and the CO (City) on the phone, seeking information about the case. She stated that strict action should be taken against the accused in the case, adding that a person who exhibits such deplorable mentality should face stern punishment under the law.

The USCW chief said that considering the information received, it appears as if the accused carried out the incident after planning it properly. Stating that such abuse shows the man’s criminal tendency, she told the SP (Rural) that the police should investigate the case very seriously because people with a mentality are also a danger to society.

The accused should be arrested at the earliest and face strict legal action, she added. Kandwal said that she will also meet the victim. The incident in question is reported to have occurred in the Patelnagar area of the provisional State capital on March 31.
