Kandwal tells police to take strict action in molestation case

The chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal has asked the Udham Singh Nagar police to take strict action against the accused in a case involving the alleged molestation of a teacher by her husband and his friends. Kandwal stated that she came to know about the incident in which a female teacher in Kashipur was molested by her husband and his friends in a car.

In light of this, she said that she spoke with the Udham Singh Nagar superintendent of police to enquire about the entire incident. The police informed her that the husband of a female teacher, along with his friends, assaulted the teacher in a car while she was on her way to school. They then took her to his sister’s house in Rampur from Kashipur to Bazpur and threatened her with a gun. The victim in this case was residing with her mother in Prakash City due to marital issues with her husband, she said. 

Kandwal added that the police have assured her that a case has been registered against two individuals under various sections of the IPC at the ITI police station. The victim’s husband and one of his friends have been apprehended, and legal measures are being taken against them, she added. Kandwal further said that in light of this incident, she directed the police to take stringent action against all the accused. Further, she emphasised that the police should also investigate and take action against those who own illegal firearms. 

Kandwal also highlighted another incident of the case involving a man engaging in an obscene act with a five-year-old girl residing in a neighbouring colony. The victim had gone to Haridwar Kankhal area to receive Prasad. During her conversation with the police officials, she directed them to take stringent action against the accused in this matter. She stated that the police informed her that a case had been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant sections and the accused was presented in court from where he was sent to jail.
