Kanwad Yatra:  DM directs NHAI, PWD to make roads pothole-free

Taking note of the upcoming Kanawd Mela, the district magistrate, Mayur Dixit directed the officers of the National Highway Authority of India and the Public Works Department to ensure that the roads under their jurisdictions are made fully pothole-free and the required patchwork is done before the devotees start arriving in Haridwar while participating in the religious yatra.   He gave these instructions while chairing a meeting of the road safety and accident reduction monitoring committee held here on Friday.  

In the meeting, the DM asked officials to see to it that the road safety rules are strictly followed and strict legal actions are taken against those who flout these rules.   He listed rash driving, drunk driving, overloading and riding sans helmets as major violations of laws which should be dealt with sternly and stressed on bringing the number of road accidents during the yatra to the minimum. “To ensure this, the officers of the Transport and Police departments must visit the accident-prone spots along the stretches the Kanwars take on way to Haridwar and on their way back home and see how things coul;d be improved,” he said.

Among those present at the meeting were the SP, Traffic Nisha Yadav; superintending engineer, PWD, DK Singh and executive engineer, UPCL, Vipul Saini.
