Karan Mahara completes 3 years as PCC president

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara completed three years in office on Thursday.  After the defeat of the party  in the assembly elections of 2022, the then president of the Congress party Sonia Gandhi had appointed Mahara as the head of the State unit of the party on April 10, 2022.

After his appointment, Mahara focused on building the organisation of the party in the State. Under his leadership the State Congress contested five by elections of Vidhan Sabha and out of them the Congress party won in two, Badrinath and Manglaur. However the party again drew a blank in the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 although the Congress candidates were able to reduce the victory margin of BJP candidates in the five Lok Sabha constituencies. One of the highlights of Mahara was the foot march he undertook last year from Haridwar to Kedarnath for protecting the rights of Teerth Purohits and against the construction of Kedarnath temple in New Delhi.

Mahara said that he will continue to work to strengthen the party in the state and prepare it for the Vidhan Sabha elections of 2027. The PCC president said that he committed to make the party organisation strong at the booth level.
