In latest Uttarakhand news, the raging controversy over the purported comment of the State party chief Karan Mahara on Garhwal as shown in a viral video is refusing to die down despite Mahara having apologized. In continuation of the simmering factionalism in the State Congress unit, the former State party president Pritam Singh said that a politician should refrain from using such harsh words. This is despite the apology sought by Mahara on this episode. However, he averred at the same time that there is no factional feud in the State party as all are united under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. In almost the same breath, he said that if the party takes any disciplinary action against the State party general secretary Rajendra Shah on the matter related to the edited video, it would be unfortunate. He said that before taking action, it should be ascertained who edited the video that kicked up the row. “What is needed is an impartial probe. If the probe finds that Shah edited the video he should face the music. But if he did not edit it then Mahara should identify the person who did it,” Singh said.
