Kedarghati evacuation enters 3rd day
1500 pilgrims are still stranded

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the operation to rescue pilgrims stranded in Kedarghati region has reached its fifth day. As per the administration sources, a little more than 1500 people still remain stranded and with the water level of Mandakini rising with heavy rain continuing, the rescue operation has been facing considerable hurdles.
NDRF personnel engaged in the rescue activities said that they had rolled out rope for the stranded people to come down the hills with the help of the locals.
Around 1350 pilgrims have been airlifted so far. While 2024 pilgrims-stranded between Sonprayag and Junglepatti-have been rescued 161 pilgrims have been evacuated to safe places from Chaumasi. As per the Rudraprayag district administration, 6980 pilgrims have been rescued in the three days-1353 airlifted and 5324 rescued manually.
Meanwhile, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the State government- assisted by the Centre- has been taking all possible steps to ensure pilgrims’ safe evacuation and restoration of normalcy at the earliest.
