The observers appointed by the ALL India Congress Committee (AICC) for the Kedarnath Assembly by- election will visit the constituency on October 19. The party has appointed former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal as senior observer and deputy leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in State Assembly Bhuwan Kapdi and MLAs Virendra Jaati and Lakpat Singh Butola as observers for Kedarnath. As per the programme released by the AICC, all these leaders will visit Agastyamuni on Saturday where they will meet the leaders of the district unit of the party. They will also hold one to one meetings with the leaders who have expressed their willingness to contest the bypoll.

The Congress’s move on selection of the party candidate for the constituency comes a day after the State parliamentary board of BJP prepared a panel of six candidates for the constituency. The central leadership of the BJP will now make the final decision on the name of the candidate.

The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni has said that the observers will prepare a panel of candidates for the bypoll and send it to the party high command. She said the image, commitment and contribution for the party and winability will play an important role in the selection of the candidate. Dasauni added that the people of Kedarnath are enlightened and intelligent. She said that the people of the area had sent the Congress candidate to the assembly in 2012 and in the tsunami of BJP in the year 2017 again selected Congress candidate.  The Congress leader said that in view of an adverse public response the BJP has come into a panic mode and it is now spreading rumours of discord and factionalism in the State unit. She said that the BJP has deployed five of its cabinet ministers in Kedarnath which shows its desperation. Dasauni claimed that the people of Kedarnath have decided to teach BJP a lesson in the by-election.
