Kedarnath replica row

Tuesday, 16 JULY 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

With the Delhi Kedarnath Dham row raging on, the first reaction from Sri Kedarnath Delhi Dham Mandir Trust-the organisation engaged in the new temple building work- has come. Notably, the trust maintained a studied silence over the row till now though it developed into an emotive issue particularly for the people of Garhwal.   The manager of the trust Jeetendra Phulera said in Delhi that they are not using the name of any shrine. “Besides, those opposed to the building of the temple in Delhi have not contacted us. So we have nothing to do with this and our work will continue,” he said.

He further said that the trust had come up two years ago and it never engaged itself in anything wrong. Alluding to the Badrinath temple in Mumbai inaugurated by then Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat, he said that the temple they were building was not the first instance of such mandir building.

Stating that Rs 12 crore would be spent on this work, he said that they would try to build the temple as a replica of Kedarnath Dham in Garhwal. “We, however, know that it is not possible to replicate the ancient shrine in toto,” Phulera said, adding that it is up to the believers to decide whether they would go to the original temple in Garhwal or come to the mandir being built in Delhi.   The temple is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
