In latest Uttarakhand news, with rain still pounding the State relentlessly, the pilgrimage to the revered Kedarnath shrine has been halted again. It is learnt from the Rudraprayag district officials that the Yatra has been stalled at Sonprayag and Gourikund. The pilgrims are not being allowed to move beyond these two places, the district officials added. Meanwhile, four state highways and 10 linked roads have been closed for traffic with torrential rain triggering landslides. It is also learnt that the two rivers-Alaknanada and Mandakini -are in spate, fed by the incessant rain. To add to the worry, the State Met centre has issued orange alert of heavy rain on July 12.
Amidst the rain fury still wreaking havoc in the State, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami assured that taking note of the Met centre’s heavy rain alert, the administration is on alert mode, prepared to combat any rain-related emergency. He said Uttarakhand faces such natural calamities every year. “Landslides are happening at several places and the rivers are in spate. The administration of every district of the State along with the relief and rescue teams has been functioning in full alert mode,” the CM added.
