The chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Geeta Khanna directed the Haridwar senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobhal to bring a woman and her child, who she allegedly beat severely, to the commission along with the report of their case. This directive came after Khanna became aware of an incident through a newspaper report on Thursday. Khanna said that she recently came across a case where a woman was brutally beating her child, as reported in the newspaper. The incident took place in Jhabreda and the video of the abuse was initially circulated on social media. A concerned town resident reported the matter to the police, leading to an FIR being filed against the woman, she added.
She further informed that in response to this, she immediately took note of the case and instructed the SSP of Haridwar to take action in the matter. She also asked the SSP to present the victim child and mother in the commission’s office under police protection, along with a report on the incident. Further, Khanna stated that she has directed the relevant authorities to conduct a psychological evaluation of the mother and scheduled a meeting at the commission’s office on July 26 to review the actions taken in the case. She also instructed officials to ensure that if the child is not being properly cared for by the parents and if the father is not providing for the children’s health, education and other needs, then the children should be admitted and rehabilitated in a government hostel by the Child Welfare Committee.
