Khanna suggests separate cell to check drug abuse among children

The chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Geeta Khanna said that it is important to establish a separate cell to save children from drug abuse. She said this in a review meeting held on Friday at Kathgodam. Additional district magistrate Ashok Kumar Joshi and other officials were present in the meeting.
During the meeting, Khanna emphasised the need to address issues like violence, natural disasters, domestic violence and exploitation which have an impact on childhood. She also provided comprehensive information on child trafficking and child labour. Further, she stressed on the importance of establishing a separate cell within the State to specifically address the prevention of drug abuse among children. Khanna instructed theofficials to conduct thorough inspections of child reform homes where children are placed for treatment and protection.
Officials of linear departments in the review meeting informed Khanna about various challenges faced by them. Regarding this, officials of the Education department informed Khanna that in relation to child rights, education should be disseminated in all sections of society and the current safeguards related to child rights should be widely publicised through publications, conferences and other mediums through public awareness programmes.
