Accusing the Congress party of trying to play Dalit card, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that Mallikarjun Kharge is a very senior leader of the country and no one can even imagine insulting him. Interacting with the media persons in Haridwar on Friday, the CM said some social organisations had registered their protest on some derogatory slogans raised during the public meeting of Congress president in Haldwani. He said that the Congress party is trying to give a twist to the incident with an eye on the vote bank. The CM said that people of the State have understood the true character of the Congress party. “Everyone knows how they behaved with Babu Jagjivan Ram and how they insulted Sitaram Kesri. For a long time due honour was not given Baba Saheb BR Ambedkar,’’ he said. The CM added that the downtrodden sections of the society were given their due respect by the government headed Prime Minister Narendra Modi due to which has caused discomfiture for the Congress party.

The CM was in Haridwar to attend the ‘ Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas’ programme organized by the Uttaranchal Punjabi Mahasabha.

In his address the CM said that the partition was not just a division of India’s geographical boundaries but also the displacement of the shared heritage, culture, identity and sentiments of millions of people. People who had lived together for centuries were separated overnight and millions of families had to leave their homes and endure the pain of displacement. Paying tribute to the innocent people who lost their lives during partition, he said that it is essential to convey this painful history to future generations.

Dhami said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to celebrate August 14th as Vibhajan Vibhishika Smrti Diwas is historic. Its purpose is to commemorate the struggles and sacrifices of the families affected by the Partition and to awaken the new generation to the unity, integrity and social harmony of the country.
