Khel Mahakumbh starts in U’khand

The State government is committed to encourage and promote sports talent across the State, the Sports minister Rekha Arya said. She said this during the commencement of Khel Mahakumbh in Almora on Friday.
Arya inaugurated Khel Mahakumbh-2024 at the HNB sports stadium in Almora. Speaking at the event, Arya expressed her belief that players from all over the State will bring glory to the State and the country in the future with their talent. Arya also honoured the family members of sportspersons from Almora, Lakshya Sen and Ekta Bisht. Apart from this, she released an amount of Rs 2.45 crore through DBT to the beneficiaries of Mukhyamantri Udiyaman Khiladi Unnayan Yojana and Mukhyamantri Protsahan Yojana.
She informed that to boost the morale of the State’s players, the government will present a cash prize of Rs one lakh each to those who break national records in this Khel Mahakumbh. Additionally, players who perform well from the Nyay Panchayat level to the district level will also be granted scholarships at Maharana Pratap Sports College, based on merit, she added. The winners of the 600 and 800-metre races were also honored during the event with medals and certificates.
