Khel Mahakumbh to be held before National Games

Sports minister Rekha Arya announced that the State will host the Khel Mahakumbh in Uttarakhand prior to the 38th National Games. In a recent review meeting with officials at the secretariat, Arya instructed officials to begin preparations for the event, targeting an October 1 kickoff. This initiative aims to provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents.
During the meeting, Arya discussed various sports schemes and the State Sports University Act with the officials. Arya said that she had issued necessary orders to establish a Women’s Sports College in Champawat district. Arya directed the officials to ensure that the remaining scholarships for the beneficiaries of various sports related schemes. Additionally, she instructed that selection trials for the Mukhyamantri Udayiman Yojana should be conducted between April and June each year in alignment with the academic session. Arya told the officials to promptly submit a proposal to revise the standard operating procedure of the sports development fund to the government department so that our young players can benefit from the scheme in a timely manner. In addition, the Sports minister emphasised the importance of the sports department publicly displaying the list of registered sports associations on its website to facilitate access to information about these associations. Further, she brought up the matter of transferring land to the sports university and inquired about the progress of the construction plans for the Women’s Sports College in Champawat. She further asked officials to provide updates on the status and instructed them to commence the groundbreaking ceremony in the initial week of October. Arya also informed that an estimated budget of Rs 264 crore has been allocated for the Champawat Women Sports College, with plans to initiate further actions and processes in the near future.
