The Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) will include the home stays in the Kumaon region on its official website. This will provide a much needed boost to the branding and business of the home stays in the region. The KMVN managing director Vineet Tomar informed that the corporation had first started work on the home stays concept in Uttarakhand. As a result, there are thousands of home stays across the State today. A wide range of people are benefitting from the home stays including those for whom these are the main source of livelihood. Many such people are those living in remote rural areas and the number of such people is considerably high at present. On the one hand the home stays provide a means of livelihood to the villagers while on the other hand they provide a means for tourists to visit and spend time in remote areas.
However, this business has not progressed as much as it should have, said Tomar, adding that the main reason for this is the lack of proper marketing. Considering this, the KMVN will include the home stay operators on its website. He said that the corporation’s website has its own identity and can prove quite benefitial for the home stay operators. However, the home stay operators will have to meet the standards of the KMVN in order to be included on its website. He said that the corporation has set standards regarding rooms, food, toilet, cleanliness and other aspects. Those who meet these standards will be included on the corporation’s website.
According to Tomar this will benefit both the home stay operators and the corporation. While the home stay operators will see more business and resulting increase in income, the KMVN will also charge some commission in exchange. The KMVN has prepared the scheme for this purpose and will soon invite the home stay operators, he added.
