Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that it is necessary to know Sanskrit to get acquainted with Sanskriti. He said that the State government intends to inculcate Sanskrit in the education of Uttarakhand.
The CM was virtually addressing a programme after inaugurating the Ved Shashtra Anusandhan Kendra at Raghunath Kirti campus of Central Sanskrit University at Devprayag on Thursday. The centre is opened in the memory of Swami Karpatri Maharaj.
The CM said that Sanskrit should be made employment oriented. He said that the knowledge of Vedas made India Vishwa Guru and we will be able to keep this identity intact only when Sanskrit spreads its wings in the entire country. He said that it is a matter of great pride that the Raghunath Kirti campus has made a big name for itself in a short period of time. Terming the campus as a major gift of the Union government for the State, the CM said that such centres are important for the spread of Sanskrit. He expressed confidence that the students of the centre would become committed and ascetics like Swami Karpatri Maharaj. “We want that Uttarakhand known for ancient wisdom and knowledge regains its old glory and for this University is an important asset not only for the State but for the entire country.’’
He said that in earlier times the students of the mountainous areas of the State had to go to Varanasi, Jaipur, Kerala, Haridwar and other places to get higher education in Sanskrit and a lot of money was needed for this. The CM said that the Devprayag campus has solved this problem for the students. He added that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a special focus on this campus and the PMO keeps a track on the construction works and developmental activities of this campus.
The local MLA Vinod Kandari, Swami Abhishek Brahmchari, national convenor of Yuva Chetna Rohit Kumar Singh, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Central Sanskrit University Sriniwas Varakhedi and others were present on the occasion.
