Kotdwar café serves free meals to the needy

Selfless efforts by some people are helping the needy during this tough time when the numbers of Covid-19 cases are rising daily in the state. One such example is seen in Kotdwar where people of Rasta Cafe, Aamsaur are serving free food and water to the needy and are ensuring that no one goes hungry in this Covid crisis. With many cities including Kotdwar under Covid curfew and most shops remaining closed, it becomes difficult for many especially the family members of patients to eat proper meals.
Outside the government base hospital of the city in a food van, the café staff members carry bottled water and 500 plates of food for people in need. The van is provided by another local food outlet of the city named Bawarchi which is also cooperating with the cafe in providing free food. The free food is available from 12 noon to 10 pm outside the base hospital Kotdwara.
The café owner Jatin Negi says, “We just want to help those in need because in such an emergency it’s important to do what you can. We have been providing free food for the last five days in the city and the nearby areas but from last two days we have set a van outside the base hospital because in hospitals there are people like some health workers and relatives of the patients who can’t afford to buy food and water so they seem to be in more need during this crisis.”
Jatin adds, “We are serving nearly 350 plates per day. People are provided rice, Dal, a vegetable dish and a fruit along with drinking water for free. We ensure to follow all the Covid guidelines by wearing face masks and using hand sanitizers during distribution and also try to maintain proper hygiene standards.” They are also providing free food in Duggada to the health workers and the emergency cases.
