Krishna celebrated with zest

Devotees celebrated the Jamashtami festival with religious fervour on Monday. The market witnessed a surge in visitors a week prior to the celebration, as people sought decorative items to make the Janmashtami festival. The peopleand visitors in Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar and other parts of the State marked the occasion with zeal and devotion. Peopke thronged prominent tempkes and local shrines were great enthusiasm on the festive occasion. Many temples in Doon witnessed a significant influx of devotees on Monday, with crowds gathering from early morning till past midnight. Commenting about the celebration and importance of the Janmashtami festival, priest Krishna Jagudi emphasised the crucial role that the celebration of Janmashtami plays in Sanatan Dharma. On the day of Janmashtami, the local temple committees adorned the temples with illumination, flowers and balloons. In addition, he added that in the morning, they concealed Laddu Gopal- Krishna as a baby- who is present in the temple, in a basket. At midnight, when Krishna was born, they placed Laddu Gopal on the Jhula and offered Prasad to him. He further highlighted that the line of devotees at the temple was observed well past midnight.
A devotee in the temple, Lalita Bhauguna said that as a tradition in her family, she annually presents new garments to Laddu Gopal to celebrate Janmashtami. She further shared that she committed to fasting on this auspicious day for Lord Krishna, breaking the fast at midnight, which marks the birth time of the Lord.
Apart from this, many children were also observed adorned in vibrant Radha-Krishna attire in temples, immersing themselves in the festive atmosphere under parental guidance. Additionally, children were also indulged in Krishna Leela plays to commemorate and vitalise the occasion.
