KU hosts 2-day workshop on women harassment at workplaces

With the University Grants Commission running a 16-day awareness campaign from November 25 to December 10 on the theme of ‘Sexual Harassment of Women (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal)’ to eliminate gender-based violence at workplaces, the Kumaun University Nainital hosted a two-day workshop on ‘Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Working Women and Students” at the Centre for Women’s Studies which commenced on November 28. Aside from detailed discourses on what constituted sexual harassment, the workshop also deliberates on the legal and constitutional provisions for prevention of sexual harassment. On the first day, a leading High Court advocate Sweta Doval explained in detail about the Vishakha Guidelines and the case of Bhanwari Devi. Notably, POCSO Act 2013 is based on the Vishaka Guidelines. The director of Women’s Studies Centre, Neeta Bora Sharma shared her experiences of women harassment on the occasion.
