KU to begin drive to eliminate TB

Kumaun University is about to launch a new initiative to fulfil its social responsibility by contributing towards achieving the Government of India’s goal of TB free India. Under this programme, the university will provide nutritional support and counselling to the tuberculosis (TB) patients from the economically unprivileged sections of the people so as to facilitate for them an effective treatment. Under this programme, the university will provide nutritional diet as recommended by doctors to the patients to boost their immunity to fight diseases. Apart from this, it will deploy some students of the Pharmacy department for regular counselling and assistance to these patients.

Speaking of this campaign, the KU vice- chancellor Prof Diwan Singh Rawat said that the objective of the university is not limited to provide education but also to fulfil its responsibility towards the society. “Our drive against TB is a part of this,” he said, adding that they were planning to expand this campaign further in future to arouse awareness about this disease.   According to the KU administration, so far eight needy patients have been identified but their confidentiality will be maintained.
