KU to provide scholarships, uplift villages

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the 30th meeting of the Kumaun University’s finance committee was held under the chairmanship of the vice- chancellor Prof Diwan Singh Rawat during which a slew of important decisions was taken unanimously, including the ones to send two PG students from each department of the university to other institutes for internship and adopt at least five villages from those under its jurisdiction for educational and social uplift of the villagers.
As per the decisions, the university will provide financial assistance of Rs 5,000 per month for two months to two PG students from each department and send them to other institutes for internship on the recommendation of the faculty or department heads concerned. Besides, the students securing the highest marks in the university will be provided with financial assistance of Rs 3000 per month aside from being sent for internship. Plus, a total of four students-two each from Science and Art faculties-will be provided with fellowship of Rs 5,000 per month for one year to do research work on the basis of their quality research publications and exam performance.
Additionally, to boost educational and socio-economic wellbeing of the villagers from five villages to be adopted from those under its educational jurisdiction, the university will organise programmes from time to time.
Speaking of the new initiatives by the university, the VC said that these are aimed at providing the best possible opportunities to the students to show their best. Besides, he said, the university is fully alive to its commitment to improve the life of the villagers living in its vicinity.
