Kumar from Chhattisgarh equals national record

Vijay Kumar from Chhattisgarh equaled the clean and jerk national record in weightlifting by lifting 143 kilogrammes after a 105 kilogrammes snatch in the 30 National Games here on Thursday. Kumar won the gold. After this performance, Kumar has equaled the national record set by Maharashtra’s Sanket Sargar who set it in 2022. Kumar competed in the 55 kilogrammes men’s category in the National Games. He lifted a total of 248 kilogrammes, comprising 105 kilogrammes in snatch and a record-tying 143 kilogrammes in clean and jerk.

In another highlight of the National Games, the Maharashtra triathlon team won a total of six medals. The team performed well in triathlon events, including individual triathlon, mixed relay and duathlon, winning two gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals.

According to officials, Parth Sachin Miraje earned a bronze medal in the men’s individual triathlon while Dolly Devdass Patil won gold and Mansi Vinod Mohite won silver in the women’s individual triathlon. In the duathlon events, Dolly Patil won a silver medal and Mansi Mohite clinched a bronze. Maharashtra further strengthened its medal tally by securing a gold medal in the mixed relay event.

Among other States, Madhya Pradesh secured three medals—one gold, one silver and one bronze on Thursday. The Services team won one silver and one bronze medal in the duathlon while Tamil Nadu secured a bronze medal in the mixed relay.

DEHRADUN : Sports minister Rekha Arya sought the feedback of athletes and officials on various arrangements including food, in the ongoing 38th National Games. The minister sought the feedback while visiting the Maharana Pratap Sports College on Thursday where she attended a basketball match

Arya watched the women’s match featuring Punjab against Uttar Pradesh, followed by the men’s match between Tamil Nadu and Punjab. She said that during her visit she gathered feedback on the arrangements made for the event from the players and the officials. Arya also sought information from the athletes regarding their accommodation, duration of stay and travel arrangements.

The Sports minister also observed the squash matches at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium. She instructed the officials to ensure that in addition to implementing security and other logistical arrangements for the players, they should also take measures to prevent any inconvenience to the spectators arising from excessive security protocols. Further, she urged the residents of the State to take the time out to attend the sporting events in significant numbers to support the athletes.
