Kumar shares success formulas at UPES career talk

UPES facilitated a mentoring session and career talk for aspiring engineering students with known mathematician and educationalist Anand Kumar who is also noted for his Super 30 programme.

Kumar suggested the students should choose an institute that provides multi-disciplinary learning. “Engineers do not work in isolation. Besides the engineering know-how, they need to understand the design, business, legal and finance side of a problem to be able to come up with effective solutions. A multi-disciplinary learning environment, where you get to interact with students and faculty of other streams or work with them on projects etc., helps you get a wider perspective of issues, making you an effective problem-solver and hence, a successful engineer,” he said. He further asked the students to add to their knowledge. The pandemic has made all realise the need to be more adaptable and agile. Continuous up-skilling and re-skilling enhances a student’s chance to stay relevant in the ever-changing working environment. He suggested, “Strive to learn new things because creativity and innovation is the key to succeed. Do not limit yourself to one stream of education but open your avenues. If you are a mechanical engineer go and learn something on artificial intelligence or machine learning. Keep adding different subjects to your core domain knowledge.” Kumar also stressed on the importance of multiplying efforts, not letting negative thoughts clouding the vision and goal, and maintaining commitment and patience. “Life is full of struggles, but never get distracted and don’t wait for someone to change your life, because it’s only you who is in charge of your own fate,” said Kumar.
