Over 20 per cent of the vehicles used for door to door garbage collection under the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) were absent from duty on Friday. This was revealed during the inspection of the integrated garbage management control room by the Dehradun municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar. After receiving several complaints through platforms like the Citizen App and CM Helpline regarding the failure of garbage collecting vehicles to reach certain areas, the commissioner conducted a surprise inspection of the control room at 11AM

He reviewed the movement of vehicles operated by three companies, Econ, Sunlight and Water Grace. He specifically monitored vehicles in wards 93, 52, 92 and 96, scrutinising both operational and broken-down vehicles. Upon finding gaps in the coverage, particularly in ward 99 where a vehicle had failed to visit one area despite being scheduled, Kumar demanded immediate explanations. Kumar also issued a stern warning to the companies. The commissioner emphasised that any vehicle failing to reach its designated area without valid reasons should face strict action. He also mandated that broken-down vehicles must be promptly replaced. Kumar said that the municipal corporation aims to achieve 100 per cent door to door garbage collection and urges residents to separate dry and wet waste before handing it over to collection vehicles, contributing to a clean and beautiful Doon.
