KU’s classical music concert series hosts Sarod recital

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the fourth edition of the Indian classical music concert series was organised in the Music department of Kumaun University‘s DSB campus.  In the programme, a Sarod artist from Haldwani Smit Tiwari presented his recital. Smit, who had been honoured with Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by Sangeet Natak Academy in 2015, is also an A grade artist of Akashvani and Doordarshan. He presented several Ragas, one after another. He was accompanied by the Tabla player from Haldwani Lokesh Joshi, a former student of the Music department of DSB campus.

The head of the department of Botany and director of Visiting Professor Directorate Prof Lalit Tiwari said that music which gets mentioned in Samveda represents a blessing of Shiva and Saraswati. On this occasion, the head of the department of Music, Gagandeep Hothi said that the main objective of hosting this series is to introduce the students of all departments of the university to the classical music tradition and connect them with Indian culture. Among those present was the campus director Prof Neeta Bora Sharma. A large number of students and teachers was present.
