KUTA shocked over removal of Gandhi & Pant statues

In latest news from Uttarakhand, Kumaun University Teachers Association (KUTA) submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate Vandana Singh, expressing shock over the administration’s decision to remove the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Govind Ballabh Pant in Nainital. Speaking on the matter, the
KUTA president Prof Lalit Tiwari and general secretary Vijay Kumar said that the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue from near Tallital old bus station and Govind Ballabh Pant’s statue from Mallital’s Govind Ballabh Pant Park in Nainital had anguished the people. They said that these two stalwarts are held in great respect by the people for their unparalleled contribution to the freedom struggle and nation- building.
The memorandum stated that the KUTA members were unable to understand the reasons behind the removal decisions. It further said that the people should respect the statues and monuments built in the memory of great leaders and carry forward their legacy.
