Lab on Wheels to be operated in four districts in first phase

The Labs on Wheels mobile science laboratory will be operated in the first phase in the four districts of Champawat, Alomora, Dehradun and Pauri. Issuing this instruction while chairing a meeting on the project, chief secretary Radha Raturi directed that the project should be monitored regularly through the dashboard. The project is being undertaken to strengthen laboratory facilities in rural and remote mountainous regions of the State and connect children with science and education.Addressing officials, Raturi told them to especially encourage girl students for science education through this project. The State government has allocated a sum of Rs five crore for this mobile science lab project. Mobile science labs will be operated in all the 13 districts of the State to enhance creative knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in students of classes VI to X under this project. The project will be implemented in all the districts after it is successfully implemented in the four chosen districts for six months in the first phase. Raturi said that science labs in the schools located in rural and remote mountainous regions should also be strengthened through this project. Work should also be undertaken to popularise science and encourage science communication. Screening of science films for students, live sky observation through telescope, science fairs, workshops, innovation fairs along with training and workshops for teachers should also be organised under the project, Raturi directed. Education director general Banshidhar Tiwari, Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology director general Durgesh Pant and other officials were also present in the meeting.
