The Labour department has rescued six children forced into labour in violation of the anti-child labour laws so far in 2025 through a special drive conducted in Dehradun on Fridays and Saturdays. This initiative aligns with the directives of the district magistrate Savin Bansal and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). The targeted campaign was kicked off in September 2024, focusing on identifying children engaged in physical labour.

The Labour officers said that since September 2024 till December 2024, the Labour department has rescued 14 children from forced labour, adding that the special campaign is being consistently conducted.

In an update on the status of the campaign for 2025, the assistant labour commissioner Dehradun, Deepak Kumar said that since the beginning of this year, the department, in collaboration with the district task force, has rescued six children engaged in child labour. These children have been returned to their parents by the child welfare committee. Further, First Information Reports have been filed against the employers under whom these children had been found working.  Kumar also informed that following the directives of the DM, three mini buses had been recently requisitioned to facilitate the success of this campaign.

The teams, tasked with the campaign, are visiting various places to rescue children engaged in labor and transport them to the child welfare committee (CWC) for counseling.

Kumar further stated that these buses mitigate the risks associated with rescuing children. “Additionally, they make it easier for the district task force to carry out rescues using vehicles,” he added.
