Lack of parking at district hospital causing inconvenience to public

Wednesday, 25 SEPTEMBER 2024  | PNS | DEHRADUN

Concerns have arisen regarding the insufficient parking facilities by the patients and their attendees at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay district Hospital. It has been noted that the limited parking space has resulted in vehicles being improperly parked, impeding the movement of doctors and patients, and obstructing pathways for hospital visitors. Additionally, arguments between patients and the hospital’s parking contractor are also common.

The hospital parking contractor’s employee highlighted the escalating parking issue, attributing it to a rise in the number of patients without a corresponding increase in parking space. He underscored that the inadequate parking space has even led hospital staff to park vehicles improperly, causing occasional traffic congestion on hospital grounds. Numerous confrontations arising from parking matters have also been witnessed. He suggested that the administration should take action to address this issue. Apart from this, the employee further emphasised that the limited parking space sometimes causes discomfort when providing services within the premises.

A patient Mona Chaturvedi expressed her recurring parking issues while visiting the hospital. She noted the absence of dedicated parking within the hospital premises, leading to vehicles being parked outside which creates significant inconvenience. She stressed the importance of addressing the parking space shortage, especially for emergency situations considering the hospital’s status as a district hospital.

“The lack of adequate space has directly contributed to the parking problem, further exacerbated by staff members parking improperly. Rather than neglecting this issue, district hospital officials should prioritise resolving the parking concerns to ensure patient comfort,” said another individual visiting hospital Himanshu Kanjoia

Many other patients as well as their attendees have expressed the same concern over the lack of parking within the hospital premises.
