Lakhs attend first Shahi Snan of Kumbh Mela
No restrictions on devotees but follow precautions against Covid, says CM
The first Shahi Snan of Kumbh Mela was held in Haridwar on Thursday on the occasion of Mahashivratri with lakhs of devotees and members of the religious fraternity taking holy dips in the Ganga. Chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat also visited Haridwar to welcome members of the religious fraternity and seek their blessings on the occasion. Flower petals were also showered on the devotees from a helicopter on the occasion.
The CM reached Har Ki Paidi where he offered prayers and then also welcomed the sadhus and other devotees on the occasion.
Rawat said that the government will not impose any type of restrictions strictly on those arriving here to attend the Kumbh Mela. However, all people should observe Covid-19 guidelines, wear masks and observe social distancing, he appealed. The CM further said that the government had made all necessary arrangements for the convenience of devotees. Many devotees took holy dips in the Ganga early in the morning and then left for their homes. The Sadhus of various Akhadas attended the Shahi Snan and after they were done, the other devotees took holy dips in the Ganga.
Rawat said that on the occasion of the first Shahi Snan of the Kumbh Mela, flowers were showered on the ascetics. He opined that all the members of the religious fraternity appeared happy even as the administration remained active in resolving any issues faced by the devotees. The State government is committed to holding a divine, grand and safe Kumbh Mela, he reiterated.
