In latest Uttarakhand news, the devotees in their lakhs gathered in Haridwar to take holy dip in the sacred Ganga river on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya. A large number of devotees were found taking dip at Har Ki Pauri and other Ganga ghats during the auspicious time just before the rise of the sun. They performed the rituals of worshipping the Sun-god along with the dip. Notably, this congregation came close on the heels of the Kanwad Yatra during which crores of devotees from Uttarakhand and other states thronged the sacred city of Haridwar to fetch Ganga water. In anticipation of a huge gathering of devotees on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya, a large police contingent was posted. Police officers claimed that adequate, special arrangements had been made to keep the traffic flow normal during the bathing ceremony congregation.
