In breaking news Uttarakhand, thousands of devotees have thronged the fabled Har ki Pauri ghat in Haridwar to take holy bath in the Mother Ganga on the auspicious occasion of Ganga Dussehra. To ensure safety of the devotees, the administration has divided the mela region into four super zones, 16 zones and 37 sectors. Along with 764 police personnel, four companies of PAC, two units of BDS and two fire fighting units have been deployed.
Earlier, the Haridwar senior superintendent of police Ajay Singh said during briefing that they were gearing up for the Ganga Dussehra festival in anticipation of the arrival of lakhs of devotees from near and far. He asked the police personnel to remain mild-mannered with the devotees. He further said that each occasion involving holy dip in Ganga has its own religious/ spiritual significance and all the on-duty police personnel should keep this in mind. He urged the police personnel to perform their assigned duties with full sincerity. They must be alert too, he said and on finding any suspicious object like abandoned bag they should promptly investigate.
