Lakhs of people thronged Kainchi Dham of Baba Neeb Karoli on its foundation day at Bhowali on Saturday. Devotees from across India and abroad visited the shrine from 4 AM to 9 PM and partook of the Baba’s favourite Malpua Prasad. The police and local administration had prohibited vehicles from Bhowali to Kainchi Dham and a shuttle service was provided. However, considering the rush for the shuttle service, many walked the six kilometres from Bhowali to Kainchi Dham.
The doors of the temple were opened after offering bhog to Baba Neeb Karoli at 4:55 AM. Devotees started to throng the shrine and by 9 PM, devotees were waiting in a three kilometre long queue. According to local sources, the highest number of devotees had come from various parts of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.
Devotees attending the event on June 15 till the previous year had to suffer from traffic jams en route to the shrine. However, the strict enforcement of the traffic plan by the police prevented such a situation this year. The authorities had also prohibited the setting up of free water kiosks along the way for the devotees to prevent congestion. This resulted in many of the visitors searching for water to quench their thirst on a warm and sunny Saturday. The district magistrate Vandana Singh had earlier ordered that water tankers should be placed along the route for the visitors but the facility was provided mainly near the shrine.
