Lakhs visit Neelkanth Mahadev temple on first Monday of Shrawan

On the first Monday of Shrawan lakhs of Kanwadiyas visited the Neelkanth Mahadev temple in Yamkeshwar block in Pauri district. The crowd of devotees started gathering near the temple from Sunday midnight and at 4 AM on Monday, 42,190 devotees performed Jal Abhishek in the temple. The number of devotees who visited the temple reached 1,71,950 by 10 A.M. The number increased considerably by evening.
It is pertinent to mention that from the start of the Neelkanth Shrawan Kanwad Mela from July 3 to 10, 12,65,605 Kanwadiyas have visited the Neelkanth temple to worship Lord Shiva. These include 9,25,605 men devotees and 3,40,000 women devotees.
The Pauri district magistrate Ashish Chauhan and senior superintendent of police Shweta Choubey had on Sunday inspected the Neelkanth temple premises and different parts of the Mela area to check arrangements for the second phase of Neelkanth Shrawan Kanwad mela from July 10. Chauhan instructed officials to improve sanitation, electricity, drinking water and parking facility while Choubey inspected the Garudchatti, Phulchatti, Raatapani and other locations to check the safety arrangements and the deployment of the forces for ensuring crowd control. Directing personnel to remain alert for dubious elements she had also directed the bomb squad to remain alert round the clock.
