The Pauri district police arrested a man wanted in a land deal fraud amounting to about Rs 15 lakh from Jaipur in Rajasthan. The accused Padmendra Aswal was frequently changing locations to evade arrest.
According to the police, Kotdwar resident Deepmala had lodged an FIR on July 31 last year stating that Aswal had carried out a land deal fraud amounting to Rs 15 lakh. The police registered a case against Aswal under relevant sections of the IPC and started investigating the case. The accused had been absconding for a considerable time. The police team constituted to solve the case pursued the accused on the basis of tip offs and surveillance which finally led to his arrest on Thursday. According to the police, the accused confessed to having committed frauds in land deals in Kotdwar. When his victims started demanding the money back from him, he left the city and started living in Rajasthan.
