There is illegal occupation of the land worth crores of rupees donated to Lord Badrivishal by people. Though these lands were registered in the name of God-these lands are spread over Garhwal and Kumaon divisions, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra-these lands have been encroached upon and the administration is not serious about removing these encroachments.
Notably, the devotees thronging Badrinath from across the country and the world donate gold, silver and cash to the Lord. Some devotees donate immovable lands too to the Lord. And most of these lands have been encroached, according to Shri Badrnathi-Kedarnath Temple Committee. The members of this committee said that they have not just approached the administration but have gone to the court to get back the possession of these encroached lands. Citing an example to explain what has been happening to these lands, the legal officer of the committee Shishupal Batarwal said that a family had donated land to Lord Badrinath but later the same family had taken possession of the land. He further said that some people have got such lands registered in their names with the connivance of the revenue department employees.
