Union minister and Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar MP Ajay Bhatt had to face the opposition of the affected persons when he arrived to inspect the Baliyanala landslide area here on Monday morning. They said that they will boycott the coming Assembly polls if the required treatment is not started immediately.
The Baliyanala Sangarsh Samiti head Mukhtar Khan was informing the minister about the issues when other affected persons became angry and confronted Bhatt. The minister assured them that the authorities are serious about tackling the situation with the first priority being to protect the lives of the people. He directed the district magistrate to facilitate relocation to the remaining 50 vacant accommodations in Durgapur in addition to marking and measuring land at Rusi bypass Takula for relocation of the affected.
Some local BJP members present at the site alleged that the protest was orchestrated by opposition parties. However, the locals pointed out that the landslide is a problem that is at least 25 years old and not new. Despite this, the authorities have not been able to do the needful.
