A massive landslide struck the Tawaghat-Dharchula National Highway near the zero point in Pithoragarh district, blocking the road. A large number of vehicles remained stuck on both sides of the highway. Soon after the landslide, police and local administration swung into debris-clearing operation.
The district administration officials said that the operation was progressing slowly due to the large amount of the rubble and inclement weather. Besides, boulders continued to fall from the hill. The people were asked to use alternative road as it was uncertain when the NH stretch would be restored for traffic movement. The locals said they were worried with the blockage. That was the principal connecting road between Dharchula and Pithoragarh, they said.
