Landslide reported at Bhimbali on Kedarnath route, two drown in separate incidents

A massive landslide at Bhimbali affected the flow of the Mandakini river along the bridle path to Kedarnath on Sunday afternoon. The landslide did not cause any loss of life and though the flow of the river gradually normalised to some extent, the authorities issued an alert till Rudraprayag as a precaution. In the Nainital district, one child reportedly drowned in a river while a man reportedly drowned in the Ganga at Rishikesh on Sunday. Meanwhile, 154 roads were reported to be blocked in various parts of the State on Sunday evening, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC). In the Rudraprayag district, the national highway to Kedarnath is open till Kund. The Ukhimath sub divisional magistrate informed that some movement has been allowed on the Sonprayag-Gaurikund-Kedarnath bridle path even as the work on repairing the route is underway on a war footing. A total of 24 rural motor roads and two pedestrian bridges are blocked in the district. The national highways to Gangotri and Yamunotri are open in the Uttarkashi district though one main district road and 10 rural motor roads are blocked. The Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway was blocked near Chhinka in Chamoli district where one national highway and 33 rural motor roads are blocked. In the Nainital district, the authorities were informed about a child drowning in the Gaula river in Haldwani in the afternoon. The body of the child was recovered later in the day. One State highway and six rural motor roads are blocked in the district while 10 rural motor roads are blocked in the Bageshwar district. In Dehradun district, the authorities received information about a local resident being carried away in the Ganga river at Lakadghat Shyampur in Rishikesh on Sunday morning. He was part of a five-member group which had gone to bathe in the river. The authorities were searching for him till the time of this report being filed. Four State highways and 16 rural motor roads are blocked in the district. Eighteen rural motor roads are blocked in the Pithoragarh district while two rural motor roads are blocked in the Almora district. Two rural motor roads are blocked in the Champawat district while all the roads are reported to be clear in the Haridwar district. Similarly, one State highway and one rural motor road are blocked in Udham Singh Nagar district while one State highway, one main district road and 14 rural motor roads are blocked in the Pauri district. Fourteen rural motor roads are blocked in the Tehri district. The authorities are working to clear the debris and reopen the roads.
