In latest news from Uttarakhand, with rain-triggered landslides occurring across the Garhwal region, the Badrinath National Highway was blocked near Joshimath. As boulders came crashing down on the road, it was blocked for vehicular movement. Earlier, the vehicular movement had resumed on the highway after remaining blocked for 34 hours till Monday evening. As the stretch at Vishnuprayag and Ghursil had remained blocked for cars, about 2,000 pilgrims walked eight kilometres to reach Badrinath Dham.
In view of the rain and landslides, the secretary disaster management Vinod Kumar Suman urged the Char Dham pilgrims to consider the weather before embarking on the pilgrimage. Since the onset of monsoon, 387 roads across the State were blocked out of which 62 were opened.
Meanwhile, several rivers in Almora area like Koshi and Panar are in spate with heavy rain battering Kumaon for the past three days.
