The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya stated that the Bal Vidhan Sabha has been playing a significant role in promoting children’s participation at the State level. She said this during the conclusion of the last session of the Bal Vidhan Sabha 2022 organised here on Thursday. The last session of the Bal Vidhan Sabha 2022 was organised by non-governmental organisation Plan India on June 12-13.
Speaking on the occasion, Arya mentioned that the Uttarakhand Bal Vidhan Sabha was started in 2014 by Plan India and the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) to promote the active participation of children at the State level. A total of 70 children from all 13 districts are given the opportunity to join as child MLAs according to the number of MLAs per district. Up to now, a total of four Bal Vidhan Sabhas have been formed. Through this platform, all the child MLAs identify the problems related to the children of their respective areas and lobby with the departments concerned for the solution of those issues. Arya further mentioned that through such programmes, children are getting information about politics and their rights. The WECD minister asked all the child MLAs to work with more dedication and honesty in their respective areas.
