Lecture on border security- national security & blood donation camp organised in Doon University

Former chief minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat has said that efforts should be made to preserve the contribution of first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat so that the coming generations get inspiration from him. He was speaking during General Bipin Rawat memorial lecture series, ‘Border Security- National Security’ organised on the birth anniversary of the late CDS at Doon University here on Wednesday. He said that the nations which forget their brave hearts do not survive. The former CM said that Rawat who was aptly called as ‘People’s General’ was compassionate about Uttarakhand and wanted to work for the progress of the state. Rawat remembered the contribution of General Rawat in developing nurseries of walnut to fulfill his dream of economically strengthening the rural folks of Uttarakhand by encouraging them into planting walnut trees. He said that General Rawat firmly believed that for the security of the country the role of the civilian population is as important as armed forces. Delivering the keynote address, Lieutenant General (retd) JS Negi said that General Rawat had the capability to take such decisions in the national interest which were not popular. Terming him as a strategist par excellence he remembered his role in Doklam standoff and Galwan skirmish with China. Negi presented a detailed account of the life and achievements of General Rawat from his days in the NDA till his tragic death. He said that the country is safe as long as the boundaries of Uttarakhand are safe. Brigadier (retd) Shivendra Singh who is a cousin of Gen Bipin Rawat said that he possessed intense physical and mental strength. The director of IRDE, BK Das said that the country is fast moving in the direction of becoming self-reliant in the field of making equipment for the armed forces and armament manufacturing.
The Additional Director General (ADG) of ITBP, Manoj Rawat said that a separate department should be created in government to deal with border management.
Rear Admiral (retd) OPS Rana and director of Uttarakhand Space Application Centre (USAC) MPS Bisht also delivered a lecture on the occasion. Paying rich tributes to Gen Rawat, the Doon University vice chancellor Surekha Dangwal said that he was master of geopolitics and has become a metaphor for Uttarakhand. She announced that the lecture series would be organised every year on March 16 in the university in the memory of General Bipin Rawat.
The programme was attended by a large number of people from different sections of the society, teachers and students. A blood donation camp was also organised on the occasion in which students enthusiastically participated.
