Law and order breakdown, females not safe in U’khand, alleges Arya

Leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Yashpal Arya has alleged that the BJP government in Uttarakhand has completely failed to fulfill its promise of providing a fear-free government. Crimes against women are increasing consistently under the tenure of the BJP state government which gave the slogan of Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao. The State government has failed to provide security to women. Cases of heinous crimes like the alleged rape and murder of a nurse in Rudrapur and the alleged gang rape of a teenager in a bus in the ISBT premises adjacent to the police station in Dehradun raise questions on the poor working style of the police, Arya said.

He said that cases of heinous crimes occurring consistently seem to indicate that the rule of law has completely ended in the State and due to the poor law and order, the morale of the criminals is so high that instead of stopping the incidents of crime against women one after the other, the crimes are increasing day by day. “Recently, a minor girl was not only gangraped in Bahadrabad, Haridwar, but was also brutally murdered. In Dehradun itself, there is the case of rape of a teenager by her maternal uncle and the mutilated body of a six-month-old girl and her mother found in the Patelnagar area. After that, there was a rape incident in Banbasa. The gang rape of a 19-year-old young lady of Dwarahat by three youths after making her drunk, makes it seem as if the police are in a sedated slumber while criminals and rapists have no fear of the authorities,” he added.
