Following the incident of the installation of discriminatory sign boards in some parts of Rudraprayag district, the officiating director general of police Abhinav Kumar said that the law and order situation in Uttarakhand is under control and emphasised that creating a negative perception around it is baseless. He said that a few incidents have occurred in the past two weeks, which have elicited reactions from the media and the public but there is no need for concern. “Some incidents have taken place recently, but the State’s law and order situation is fully under control and it is wrong to build a negative narrative around it,” he said. Regarding the issue of sign boards in Rudraprayag, the DGP stated that he has sought a report from the district’s superintendent of police Akshay Konde. “I have asked the SP for a report on the issue. We will take action keeping in mind the sentiments of the local people while staying within the legal framework,” he added. Kumar also announced that all district police S/SPs will personally patrol their areas until 1 AM to ensure public safety. The DGP said that some anti-social elements attempt to commit crimes due to the large number of tourists and pilgrims arriving in the State every year but the police remain vigilant in preventing such activities. All district heads will ensure no unauthorised person enters the district that can potentially cause trouble or commit any crime, he added.
