The Bharatiya Janata Party has stressed that the law and order situation in the State is better with all the accused facing legal action. Addressing the media here on Sunday, Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli said that the Congress, which often blames the government even on small issues, must clarify its position on cow slaughter. He said that the August 25 incident is being investigated. A youth had drowned in a pond in the Roorkee area while reportedly fleeing from the police who had asked him to halt to check for beef. “The incident is being investigated. However, the Congress should clarify whether it supports cow slaughter in Devbhumi Uttarakhand. It should also opine on why most of the cases of cow slaughter lodged in various police stations are against members of a particular community. The Congress may definitely prioritise vote bank politics but the BJP is committed to a strong law and order situation along with a State free of cow slaughter. Wasim’s death is unfortunate and necessary action should be taken if police negligence or involvement is confirmed. A Congress delegation met the chief minister and is also raising the issue through the media. However, the Congress has remained silent on whether it supports cow slaughter in Uttarakhand,” Chamoli said.
Stating that Uttarakhand is viewed as Devbhumi, he said that cow slaughter in Haridwar is very unfortunate. He questioned whether the Congress doesn’t feel like strongly opposing those who indulge in cow slaughter on sacred land. The MLA further said that the State government under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is doing better work when it comes to law and order. The police and administration are acting promptly to control crime and act against criminals. He said that the action taken by the police has been commendable, whether it be solving the robbery at a jewellery shop in Rajpur Road or taking swift action in the alleged gangrape at ISBT in Dehradun. The police have caught the accused in all such cases within a short time. The allegations levelled by the opposition regarding the law and order situation are baseless and politically motivated, Chamoli added.
