In latest news from Uttarakhand, with the countdown of the Ram temple consecration in Ayodhya having started, the Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Committee organised a special programme at Pant Park in Mallital during which the great leaders who had contributed to the building of the Ram temple at Lord Ram’s birthplace Ayodhya directly or indirectly were remembered.
At the start, Puran Singh Mehra who coordinated the programme recalled the great roles played by two luminaries-Rajendra Prasad and Govind
Ballabh Pant. While speaking of the role of the country’s first President Rajendra Prasad, he said that but for his monumental role, the reconstruction of the Somnath Temple would not have been possible. Dwelling on the role of UP’s first chief minister G B Pant during the tense time in 1949 when an idol of Ram Lala suddenly appeared under the central dome of the erstwhile Babri Masjid, he said that Pant had handled the volatile situation adroitly by having the doors of the sanctum sanctorum locked and a priest appointed for doing regular puja, thus setting the stage for the inauguration and consecration of the Ram temple years later.
