The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will commence the installation of 65,000 LED street lights in the new wards from January 15 onwards.
However, the corporation will first begin the installation of 1000 LED lights timers from January 1. Informing this, the municipal light inspector (LI) Ranjeet Rana stated that besides installing 1000 timers in the new 32 wards from Friday, the MCD will also install electric meters on the electric poles. He said that the survey conducted by the EESL Company for the installation of 65,000 LED streets lights is almost finished and the installation will start from January 15 onwards. The officials also said that the corporation will erect new poles in some of the old wards too to install over 2,000 LED street lights. In order to decide from which ward the installation of street lights should start, the corporation is considering trying the lottery system, as per the officials. It is noteworthy to mention here that the municipal corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EESL Company for the installation and maintenance of 65,000 LED streets lights for the next seven years in the new wards.
