To facilitate a safe, orderly and convenient Kanwad Mela, extensive electrical arrangements are being made along the Kanwad Pathri route. Modern LED streetlights will be installed on July 17 and 18 along the approximately 50-60 km-long Kanwad route from Chidiyapur to Asafnagar Jhal. The department aims to complete all work before July 25. The project also includes Roorkee and Jwalapur areas.
Informing this on Thursday, the executive engineer of the Power Transmission Corporation, Roorkee, Deepak Saini said that around 100 generators of 63 to 125 KVA capacity would be installed to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the Kanwad Yatra. “This year, arrangements have been made for the first time to install insulation shields in street lights to prevent possible current leakage. Even though no incident of current leakage was reported last year, additional safety measures are being taken. A team of 60 to 70 employees will be deployed round the clock for the quick resolution of any technical fault or electricity related complaint during the Kanwad Yatra. Additional employees will also be arranged if required,” he added.
Notably, energy-efficient LED streetlights of 70, 100 and 150 watts will be installed along the entire route, ensuring safe and easy travel for pilgrims even at night. “The electrical system installation is estimated to cost approximately Rs 2 crore. A proposal has been sent to the government, and funding has been assured,” Saini said.
