Leopard kills another woman in Pauri village

A 70-year old woman was killed by a leopard in Bhattigaon village in Paubo block of Pauri district on Thursday night. Her body was recovered in the woods about 80 metres away by the villagers. The Nagdev forest range personnel have placed two cages to trap the leopard.
Nagdev ranger Anil Bhatt said that Sumadra Devi was outside her home when a leopard attacked her and carried her away to the jungle on Thursday night. Villagers alarmed by her cries, started looking for her and found her partially consumed body about 80 metres away from her home. Bhatt told this correspondent that 30 per cent of the Rs four lakh compensation given to the bereaved family in case of death caused by wild animal has been provided immediately. It is pertinent to mention here that two women have been killed and one injured by leopards in the Paubo block within a period of 18 days. The divisional forest officer Mukesh Kumar was not available for commenting on the situation.
